Well Fed Network

It was a cold and rainy day when my boyfriend and I ducked into a grocery store in New York City. We wanted to take a peek since we love exploring and looking at all the different products, and as we neared the checkout we saw these beautiful tins. Intrigued, we looked closer to find that they were Chimes ginger chews. One thing that always screamed to my boy’s tastes is ginger and peanut butter, and we saw a chew there with those two elements. We snatched one up and took our first taste as we headed out back into the city street.

We were immediately hooked and the tin didn’t last us very long.

Since then, we’ve given the other flavors a try as we found them in stores. We were excited to visit the Chimes booth at the Fancy Food Show and got to try their two newest flavors, Mango and Orange.

Original: Starts off lightly sweet and the ginger is delicate and fresh. The flavor then grows and intensifies into a lovely medium hot burn of the ginger and the sweetness. The texture is thick and chewy without being annoying. It’s very refreshing and very tasty.

Peppermint: The first impression is that this is an odd combination. The flavor starts out with the note of peppermint; it’s very intense and herbal. It strengthens as you chew, with the hot notes of the ginger warming under it like a fire. It’s a very interesting cool/hot sensation in the mouth, with both flavors competing with one another. It’s strange. The ginger is the last flavor in regard to the finish, as the peppermint peters out slowly to leave that warm burn of the ginger behind.

Peanut Butter: It starts off tasting a little of the ginger, then the warm, nutty, wonderfully roasted flavor of peanut butter kicks in. It blends beautifully with the ginger, giving a warm and nutty flavor that’s really addicting.

Mango: This immediately tastes of mango. Sweet and juicy of that tropical mango flavor. The ginger shows as you being to chew, starting off with a swarming flavor that grows into a full-blown ginger kick. The heat is never too much and the mango flavor is never lost or overpowered.

Orange: This has such an authentic orange flavor. It’s juicy and fresh and also has a bit of zest to it, which is wonderful. Again the ginger flavor grows and becomes a wonderful full flavor of the heat and spice of ginger, yet it’s not overpowering and doesn’t drown out the orange at all. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Needless to say, if you’re a fan of ginger, you need to get your hands on these. I can’t praise them enough.
